A giant leap for recycled animation.
Apollo artwork got a Chandrayaan caption and an entirely new mission.

THE CLAIM
A viral video is NASA footage of Chandrayaan-3 landing on the Moon.
Summary of the documented claim, not a verbatim quotation.False: the clip is an older Apollo 11 animation.
Back on planet Earth.
Alt News matched the clip to Hazegrayart's Apollo 11 animation, including a version published in June 2021. The sequence depicts the American lunar mission and includes its recognisable landing audio. It predates Chandrayaan-3's August 2023 landing.
The animation was not a live recording from NASA's network. Its use under a new caption changed both the spacecraft and the event it purported to show. An artist's reconstruction can be valuable when correctly labelled, but a convincing rendering is not documentary evidence. The real mission did not need borrowed visuals to be significant; the misleading forward simply added a camera angle that belonged to a different story.
The spacecraft changed nationality somewhere between upload and forward.
