Two ticks, three ticks, one invented feature.
A forward gave the messaging app a surveillance dashboard it never announced.

THE CLAIM
Three blue ticks or red ticks on WhatsApp indicate government inspection or impending police action.
Summary of the documented claim, not a verbatim quotation.False: the claimed tick system was a hoax.
Back on planet Earth.
BOOM documented versions of the message in 2018 and 2019. Its reporting compared the forward with WhatsApp's explanation of delivery and read receipts and included a company spokesperson's denial that WhatsApp displayed three checkmarks in chats.
The hoax borrowed familiar interface symbols and added an alarming interpretation. That does not make it a product announcement. This finding is limited to the invented tick legend; it is not a blanket claim that devices, accounts or communications can never be compromised. A real discussion about privacy deserves actual evidence rather than a colour chart supplied by an anonymous forward.
The only confirmed extra tick was on the rumour's attendance sheet.
